We issue a regular bulletin with opportunities for the mobility of artists and other performing arts professionals plus news, policy and resource items that specifically concern international mobility.

You are invited to send us news and announcements with specific opportunities or information, to facilitate and encourage cross-border professional mobility in the contemporary performing arts. Mobility … Mobility … Mobility … a round up of current initiatives OTM is delighted to see that mobility is currently the focus of many initiatives – research studies, working groups, reflection platforms and other developments, within the EU and other institutions. Mobility is finally a hot topic on many high-level political agendas. France assumes EU Presidency France assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1st July and presents its policy for the Cultural and Audiovisual areas. Mobility of productions and performing arts works is the subject of a specialist conference, November 24-25, Paris. 

Grants for Mobility

Pro Helvetia – mobility support for international promoters of performing arts Pro Helvetia announces a specialist mobility programme to support meetings between international promoters and theatre and dance artists and companies in Switzerland. Culture Programme (2007-2013) – new programme guide & shorter application forms (deadline – Cooperation projects: 1 Oct) The EU’s Culture programme (2007-2013) has a budget of €400 million for projects and initiatives to celebrate Europe's cultural diversity and enhance our shared cultural heritage through the development of cross-border co-operation between cultural operators and institutions. EU-ACP Support Programme to Cultural Industries in ACP Countries (new website – programme to be announced) THE EU-ACP SUPPORT PROGRAMME TO CULTURAL INDUSTRIES IN ACP countries is funded by the European Commission, managed and implemented by the Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP). Networking cultural mobility schemes and structures – EU Call for Proposals (deadline: 30 Sept) Networking of existing structures supporting mobility in different cultural sectors – a new call announced under the EU Mobility Pilot Programme. Open Society Institute Arts and Culture Network Program (open deadline to 2010) The Open Society Institute's Arts and Culture Network Program (ACNP) makes grants to individuals and organizations to support projects that draw on the power of culture, in particular artistic and expressive culture, to help build and maintain open societies.

Pact Zollverein Atelier, Oct 10, Essen, Germany (deadline: Aug 18) With its ATELIER series PACT Zollverein regularly offers established and emerging professional artists, working in all disciplines, an evening length platform at which to present their projects and ideas to the general public. Cimatics Festival, Brussels, Nov 08 (deadline: 31 Jul) Cimatics – Brussels International Festival for Live Audiovisual Art & VJing – invites all artists, cr
eatives and producers to send their submissions for the next Cimatics festival. National Student Drama Festival 2009, Scarborough, UK, Mar/Apr 09 – International Student Playscript Comptition + call for productions National Student Drama Festival 2009: opportunities for international artists The National Student Drama Festival (NSDF) has existed for 53 years and each year the NSDF team see over 100 student shows, involving over 2000 young people, from all across the UK and transfer the most exceptional to the festival in Scarborough. For one week a year the team create their own theatre spaces with a group of student technicians and produce at least 8 performances a day. White Night Project, Riga, Latvia, 30 Aug (deadline: 31 Jul 2008) New Theatre Institute of Latvia is looking for individual professional artists from object and marionette theatre, visual theatre and puppetry to perform a short gig and give workshop for children in Riga, Latvia during the White Night project, in the evening of August 30. Dancing on the Edge 2009, NL – call for theatre & dance from Middle Eastern artists & groups Call for Dance and Theatre Pieces from Middle Eastern Choreographers, Dance Groups, Theatre Groups and Artists for 2009 festival 

Competitions

"Ostracized Music" Germany , 1 Oct – 5 Oct , Deadline 15 July The project "Ostracized Music" is an internationally announced instrumental- and singing competition with a supporting programme of concerts, speeches and presentations, exhibitions. The competition will take place in the regional capital Schwerin. The end of the competition is a concert tour of the award winners to Prague, Vienna, Görlitz and Berlin. The Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, Helsinki, Finland, 1-12 Aug 2009 (deadline: 16 Feb 2009) The Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, organised every five years by the Finnish Cultural Foundation since 1984, counts among the most prestigious competitions of its kind in the world. The sixth Mirjam Helin Singing Competition will again be bringing the best young vocal talents to Helsinki on 1-12 August 2009. The II International Uuno Klami Composition Competition, Kotka and Kouvola, Finland, 18-19 Sep 2009 (deadline: 1 Dec 2008) The aim of the II International Uuno Klami Composition Competition is to produce good new repertoire for a small orchestra of sinfonietta type: works the performance of which will not necessitate the costly hiring of many extras or unusual, difficult-to-find instruments. 2nd Vladimir Kurochkin International Young Operetta and Musical Actors Contest, Yekaterinburg, Russia, Sep 2008 (deadline: 1 Sept) Professional artists of both musical and other theatre genres who have at least post-secondary musical education or professional school training in music, students of theatre and musical schools and universities of Russia and other countries are invited to take part in Operetta and Musical Actors Contest.

Akademie Schloss Solitude Residency Programme, Stuttgart, Germany 2009-2011 (deadline: 31 Oct) For the twelfth time in 18 years the international residency program Akademie Schloss Solitude – located in Stuttgart, Germany – is granting approx. 65 residency fellowships of three to twelve months in duration. Cent Quatre, Paris – call for residency applications (deadline: 1st Sept – but register online by 18 Aug) CENT QUATRE is a place of artistic creation and production unique in the world. Open to all forms of art, this 39,000 m² (419, 7
92 sq. feet) space is an original architectural whole in which art meets the public head-on. Pact Zollverein residencies, Jan-Jun 2009, Essen, Germany (deadline: Aug 18) From January to June 2009 PACT Zollverein is offering a residency programme for the development and realisation of projects and productions, which is open to professional artists from both Germany and abroad working in the fields of dance, performance or media art.

Master's Degree in Stage Directing from Moscow Art Theatre School and Moscow Meyerhold Center, 2009-2010 (deadline: 10 Nov 2008) Moscow Meyerhold Center and Moscow Art Theatre School have opened admissions for their 4th Master's Degree in Stage Directing program. Selection will be made on a competitive basis among interested young directors from the CIS and Baltic countries. Nordic Showcase and Nordic Drama Forum, Tampere, Finland, 5-10 Aug The Nordic Theatre Union and the Nordic Council of Ministers welcome all Nordic and international colleagues to the Tampere Theatre Festival to see exciting theatre productions and to reflect on the role of drama and our work in the Nordic countries. Culture Action Europe annual conference, Marseilles, France, 23-25 Oct Culture Action Europe presents the outline programme for the 16th General Assembly and Annual conference, to take plac
e at la Friche Belle de Mai in Marseilles from the 23rd to the 25th of October. Space of Directing, International Forum & Festival for Stage Directors, Perm, Russia, 4-7 Oct Festival’s aim is to showcase stage directing techniques and highlight select directors' personality. This is attained by an ongoing laboratory – a Forum – for realization and discussion of contemporary directing, directors' professional development, and introducing of young professionals into the field.  International Theatre and Dance Fair, Huesca, Spain, 29 Sep – 3 Oct (UPDATE – reserve your stand before 1 Sept) The Huesca Theatre and Dance Fair is a forum for professionals who work in the production, exhibition and distribution of contemporary performing arts in Spain, other EU countries and Latin America. 

Euro-Mediterranean

Creative Forum for Independent Theatre Groups (Europe-Mediterranean) – call for performances (deadline: Oct 20) Since its first edition, the Forum has been an artistic, cultural phenomenon which takes place in the ancient city of Alexandria. One of its major axes is the concept of anti-festival, for the Forum is a space for artists – call for performances EMYAN Euro-Med Young Artists Network's 1st Online Arts Festival (deadline: 20 Sep) Euro-Med Young Artists Network is launching a call for entries for its 1st Online Arts Festival to be held online in October 2008.The festival is open for young artists (up to 30 years old) living in one of the Euro-Med countries in all fields of arts that can be published on the web.

Call for contributions: Fresh Circus (ideas for European seminar on contemporary circus) – deadline: 1 Sept Contribute to a reflection on contemporary circus organised by Circostrada Network and HorsLesMurs. Call for papers: Performance Studies International Conference, Zagreb, June 08 (deadline: Nov 1) The web site of the 2009 Performance Studies international conference # 15 in Zagreb is now up and running. Calls for paper, panel and shift proposals have also been released.

Work opportunities

Researchers wanted for OTM Virtual Mobility study (deadline: 25 July) OTM is launching an international investigation into Virtual Mobility in the performing arts. We need experienced researchers with the profile, knowledge and contacts to investigate and produce a great new OTM Information Dossier.
