I am pleased to announce that in May 2011 we will be publishing an issue devoted to contemporary Afghan Literature, featuring translations from both the Dari and Pahsto.We’ve begun a campaign onKickstarterto raise $7,000 to cover production costs associated with the issue—editor salaries, web costs, etc., and I hope that you’ll be able to pitch in and spread the word.
We've secured commitments from two top Dari writers of the twenty-first century: Mohammad Hosain Mohammadi’s, "Dasht-i Laili," from the author’s short-story collectionAnjirha-ye Sorkh-e Mazar,which was awarded the prestigious Golshiri prize for best short-story collection in 2004, as well as a story by Mohammad Asif Soltanzadah.
This is our first issue devoted to Afghanistan and we’re extremely excited to highlight the literature from this war-torn and highly politicized nation. We know this is exactly the sort of issue our readers crave and we’re hoping the WWB community will come together to help us bring it to light.
