2014 hotINK at the Lark
On May 27, 2014, hotINK, led by Program Director Catherine Coray, will return to the Lark to give three teams of playwrights, who hail outside of the U.S., and translators a laboratory in which to refine a new English translation with the help of a director and actors, culminating in a public reading. To kick off the public readings, on May 31st, the Lark, in collaboration with the PEN American Center, will host a panel:
Translating the Spoken Word: A Proper Challenge
The 2014 Playwrights & Translators
ALPINE BLUES by Thomas Arzt (Austria), translated by Neil Blackadder;
DEBACLES by Marion Aubert (France),
translated by Kimberly Jannarone & Erik Butler;
LOS ASESINOS by David Olguín (Mexico), translated by Daniel Jáquez.
“There is some hesitation on the part of U.S. theaters and audiences when it comes to presenting and attending plays in translation. I have a passion for demystifying the translation process and illuminating the value of experiencing work that originated in another idiom.” – Catherine Coray; hotINK 2014 Press Release
