Additional Artists

Three late additions to our programme:

Chidi Benz (Tanzania)

Chidi Benz is one of the more creative artists in the bongo flava Swahili hiphop genre. Having collaborated on a long string of hits with many of the leaders in this field, he himself is also a great composer and uniquely talented rap artist who is gifted with a soulful and touching voice.

Kilua Ngoma (Tanzania)

In original context, Kilua ceremonies are performed for evoking the spirits and exorcising demons. There are several taboos that dances of Kilua are subjected to – for example certain dancers are not allowed to eat or drink anything the whole day until after they are through with the performance.

Thu 11 FEB, 9:45pm Old Fort – Mambo Club

Ba Cissoko (Guinea)

When born a Cissoko, one is a kora player. The Guinean Ba Cissoko perpetuates a more than centenary history. He is the last born of a long lineage of griots, master singers and agile string pluckers.

Electricity Supply

Sauti za Busara festival and 400 musicians light up Zanzibar!

At last, some good news for the people of Zanzibar…  Despite the global economic crisis hitting tourism revenue, and the lack of mains electricity since mid December, the islanders can finally look forward to Sauti za Busara music festival to brighten-up Zanzibar!

“Challenging times, but all the more reason to go ahead with Sauti za Busara”, says Yusuf Mahmoud, Director of Busara Promotions. “Festivals bring people together in celebration, help invigorate young people’s interest in local culture, give opportunities for artists to meet and learn from each other, and promote a new brand of culturally conscious tourism for Tanzania.”

“It’s true”, he continues, “having no electricity on the island presents us all with challenges, but we do have several large generators to ensure all performances continue as scheduled, as well as plans in place for the safety and wellbeing of our audiences. Electricity or not, Sauti za Busara is all charged-up and ready to go!”

However, please do bear in mind that your hotel will be experiencing challenges – noisy generators, water shortages, intermittent internet, etc…

and don’t forget to bring a torch!
