Jani Lauzon named 2015 Senior Playwright in Residence

Senior Playwright in Residence · 2015 Banff Playwrights Colony 

The Colony is thrilled to announce that next year’s Senior Playwright in Residence will be acclaimed writer and performer Jani Lauzon. In keeping with the 2015 focus on interdisciplinary creations, Jani’s career has incorporated work as a playwright, performer on stage and screen, singer/songwriter, artistic director, puppeteer and much more. We’re delighted that Jani will be in residence throughout the 2015 Colony working on a number of new projects, including one recently initiated at The Theatre Centre in Toronto entitledProphecy Fog.

 

With September now almost upon us, remember to get your application ready in time for the 2015 Colony deadline.

The Retreat: March 9 – March 21, 2015

The Colony: April 2 – April 21, 2015

The 2015 edition of The Banff Playwrights Colony will welcome eight Canadian playwrights, providing each writer with a residency tailored to their specific needs with the goal of nurturing, challenging, and inspiring the next phase of work on their play. In 2015 the Colony will explore playwright-driven interdisciplinary works.

All applications will be considered, although those with an interdisciplinary component will be of particular interest to the adjudication committee. The Colony will also feature several international writer/dramaturg teams, and partnerships with national organizations. Read about the 2014 Colony on our blog, Made in Banff.

Introducing the 2015 Senior Playwright in Residence

Jani Lauzon is a three-time Dora Mavor Moore nominated actress, a three-time Juno nominated singer/songwriter, an award-winning screen actress, and a Gemini Award winning puppeteer.

Jani is a remarkable artist, leader, mentor and activist,” says Colony Director Brian Quirt. “She brings a wealth of experience across many disciplines, a career that has spanned the country, and a wonderful sense of storytelling to her position at the Colony. I’m delighted that Jani’s voice will be central to our work next year, and that in return the Colony can offer her a place to explore exciting new works on her creative horizon.” More about Jani
