John Sherrill Houser

Santa Fe, New Mexico, US

John Sherrill HouserJohn is a sculptor and painter who recently completed the world's largest equestrian monument- a 36 ft bronze rearing horse with rider- for the international airport in El Paso, Texas. Dedicated to interpreting the human condition through direct experience, he has lived and worked with such diverse groups as the mountain people of Appalachia, the Gullah Blacks of South Carolina and several indigenous communities in the US, Mexico and Ecuador.

He is now developing plans for a 250 ft colossal figure of a Pochteca (pre-Columbian indigenous trader) to be placed on the US/Mexico border, the base of which would be a museum of pre-Columbian art and culture.

Theatre Without Borders – Interview with Roberta Levitow

Roberta Levitow"The times had changed from the 60s and around the year 2000 the theatre seemed to me to be completely disconnected and yet there were so many things going on in the world. How did that happen? How did contemporary issues fall out of interest for contemporary American artists? So I decided that I would leave America behind."
