The work of the Institute consists of: Practical work; Work demonstration; Project presentation;

During the first week of the Institute, the students will be working with actresses Maja Mitić and Sanja Krsmanović Tasić, renowned voice and movement specialists. Two other weeks of the Institute will be led by the director and cofounder of Dah Theatre Dijana Milošević.

Maja Mitić, an actress and a core member of Dah Theatre since its foundation, will focus her work on VOICE TRAINING, aimed at developing the vocal possibilities of each individual. She will work on warm-ups, resonators, and vocal actions. She will also focus on the WORK ON TEXTS that consists of creating materials through improvisations, song and physical improvisation.

Sanja Krsmanović Tasić, an actress and a core member of Dah Theatre since 1993, will focus her work on PHYSICAL TRAINING, in search for an articulated "speaking/thinking" body of the performer. The participants will pass from warming up exercises, breathing exercises, the "Heart Beat" physical training, up to guided improvisations. By searching for the organic impulse that articulates itself through movement this work will develop the sensibility of each individual towards the partner on stage and a sense of group and ensemble.

During the second two weeks, director Dijana Milošević will work on different skills and techniques that form the foundation of the performer's craft. This will focus on the principles of a performer's presence, translating various art forms for the stage and researching personal stories and biographies for the basis of creating performances. The work will also focus on creating actor's material and through the process of montage, building a theatrical performance.

Passing of Flame

Festival and Conference

11 – 18. 06. 2011.

In June 2011 DAH Theatre (founded by Jadranka Anđelic and Dijana

Milosević) is celebrating a significant jubilee – 20 years since its founding. DAH

Theatre is the only professional theatre group in Serbia that has been existing for 19

years.

In 1993 DAH Theatre Research Centre was formed, out of need to widen the

theatre's impact and be able to act nationally and internationally. During all these

years, the Centre has realized many projects, performances, tours, Festivals,

workshops, Master classes. DAH Theatre with its performances and different

activities tours around the world and also promotes many important artists and

theoreticians from the performing arts field.

In our culture one of the main issues is one of continuity and endurance.

Thus we consider that the fact, that a certain artistic concept/artistic organization,

can last and inspire many new generations with their work and art, is an important

fact.

Passing of Flame – Festival and Conference is a project that will both

symbolically and concretely confirm the importance of the long life of an artistic

group in our culture and wider.

Passing of Flame is a project that consists of both a Festival and a

Conference, whose main themes are passing of knowledge in the field of theater,

the meeting of different generations, the importance of endurance and continuation

in the culture of one country, and how can knowledge, in an art form that exists only

in the moment of the realization of a performance, be documented, passed on to

another and preserved for the future.

The artists that are invited present the most important artists from the

generation of the great theater Masters of our time: Eugenio Barba and

Odin Teatret (Denmark), Yuyachkani (Peru), JillGreenghalgh (Wales),

Rena Mirecka (Poland); Gennadi Bogdanov (Russia). These are artists

and groups that have marked the XX century with their artistic work

and whose impact is still evident in the XXI century. Many of these

artists were part of the famous BITEF festival in our city, thus

connecting our roots and the Festival that has been existing for more

than 40 years.

The second generation is the generation of artists to whom, by work and

existence, DAH Theater belongs to. These are groups and artists that continue

on the work and teachings of the great masters, and present a bridge between

them and the future generations. They also leave an important impact on the

theater scene of today and with their innovative work open new possibilities in

this artistic field: 7 Stages Theatre (USA), Teatar Labor (Germany), Teatret OM

(Denmark), Violeta Luna (Mexico), Plavo pozoriste (Serbia), Grenland Free

Teatar (Norway), Tricklock Theatre (USA), project Brazil (Brazil).

The third generation are artists and groups that directly or indirectly

present a generation that is a continuation of our generation, and is

already very present on the world theater scene, a generation open for

an experiment and something new and different: ArtsSpot Production

(USA), Prodigal Theatre (UK), Fragment Teatar (Switzerland) and

Ansambl Miraz (Serbia).

Beside the presentation of the performances of these artists and groups the

other important segment of this project is the Conference that will progress in two

parts:

– Dialogues -conversations between artists that belong to the generation of

Masters and Serbian leading artists and theoreticians.

– Cumulative reflections-in the form of round table discussions between artists

from our country and abroad.

 The third part of this meeting consists of workshops that will be led by

two famous artists representing the direct continuation of the tradition

of J. Grotowski (Rena Mirecka) and the tradition of Meyerhold(Gennadi

Bogdanov). The workshops will last for seven days.

 The forth segment of this project is the presentation of projects that

deal with theatre and boundary fields: theatre and activism, theatre and

the building of peace, theatre and spiritual practices, theatre and social

change etc. In the form of presentations, films, book presentations we

will discuss how effective theatre can be in other fields.

 The fifth, optional part of the Festival and Meeting will be the tenth

edition of DAH Theatre's International School for Actors and

Directors, and will be led by Dijana Milosevic,co-founder and director of

DAH Theatre, Maja Mitic, founding member and actress, and Sanja

Krsmanovic Tasic, core member and actress. This intensive course will

be two weeks long.

The Festival,Conference and Presentations will take place in

Belgrade from 11-18 June 2011. Workshops will continue for one

week more 20 – 26 June. DAH Theatre's International School will

continue for the next two weeks, from June 28 – July 9 2011.

Dear readers,
Welcome to TEH Newsletter #2 2011, featuring the latest news from Trans Europe Halles – a European Network of Independent Cultural Centres. The TEH Newsletter is produced by the TEH Coordination Office in Lund, Sweden.

We are very happy to announce the publication of Changing Room – Mobility of Non-Artistic Cultural Professionals in Europe. It is a first-of-its-kind research study examining mobility issues in the European culture scene within the two-year pilot project CHANGING ROOM. Another recent publication from TEH is Nordic Perspectives on European Networking – 13 independent cultural centres in conversation. In this 20-page booklet, delegates from the Nordic TEH members reflect on the role of networking in a Nordic and European context. Both publications are available for free download from the TEH website.

TEH are concerned to hear about the assassination of Guatemalan artist Victor Leiva on February 2nd. There are around 3000 assassinations of artists, cultural actors and spiritual leaders in Guatemala yearly. The victims are killed merely because of the way they think, dress or express themselves, and TEH together with freeDimensional condemns these acts of violence and hope for the killings to cease immediately.

Also in this Newsletter, we urge you to sign the we are more manifesto to express your support for culture in Europe. Read more about the campaign and get involved below.

Enjoy the read!

CHANGING ROOM Study published!
Changing Room – Mobility of Non-Artistic Cultural Professionals in Europe is a first-of-its-kind research study by the Sibelius Academy examining mobility issues of the “backstage staff” of European culture within the Trans Europe Halles project CHANGING ROOM.

This study is an in-depth investigation of the possibilities for, and barriers to, mobility within the European independent cultural sector. Its outcomes include key learning points and concrete recommendations on how to develop mobility practices for non-artistic staff members in the future.

Trans Nordic Net presents Nordic views on networking
In the booklet Nordic Perspectives on European Networking delegates from the 13 Nordic TEH members are asked what it means to be part of an international network, and what they would like to use the network for in the future. The interviews have been carried out by Karl Hallberg, president of Not Quite in Fengersfors, Sweden.

"It is fantastic to meet all these super smart, cool and fun people who all want to make the world a little bit better", was one of the answers.

The publication rounds off the the three-year project Trans Nordic Net, which has been supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Institute for Crimes against Culture‏

October 2010

Sextet of Young Women from Former Yugoslavia
(Bosnia, Croatia, Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, and Slovenia)

Primitive Voice Workshop

How you can participate

.

Greetings!

Fall has arrived and with it friends from across the pond.   Despite a sluggish economy we at ALATetc are forging ahead but we need your help to realize our ambitions.

Please join us this month in inaugurating the Institute for Crimes against Culture, an organization devoted to cross cultural awareness and to producing international encounters for theater groups.  ICAC is the brain child of our literary director, Dr. Seth Baumrin and is being launched by the US premiere of Slovenia's GLEJ Theatre's SKRIP Orkestra (SCREECH Orchestra) hosted by ALATetc and in concert with the Art and Justice Series at John Jay College's Gerald W. Lynch Theatre.

SKRIP Orkestra is a collective of women who were children during the wars in former Yugoslavia who went on to become successful advocates for justice and social services for the youth.  In their performance, stories of lost childhoods and survival in the aftermath of the wars of the 1990s, in which neighbor was pitted against neighbor during a period of ethnic cleansing, are told through powerful songs and visual imagery-relevant while playful.
Also this month Actor, Director, and Master Voice Teacher Jean-René Toussaint of Stemwerk in the Netherlands, returns to New York City, offering the Primitive Voice Workshop, private sessions and a rare opportunity to audition and work with him.  Jean-René's unique voice work is the result of twenty five years of research and development and is informed by his work with deaf adults and children.  You do not need to be a performer to benefit from this work.

As you can see we are up to big things but we need your help to achieve our goals.  We need you to attend, we need you to volunteer, we need you to help us spread the word, and we are also in need of your financial help.  Your gift of $5 or more is fully tax deductable through our fiscal sponsor The Field.

Won't you please support our great adventure?
