Curate Award

Fondazione Prada and the Qatar Museums Authority are accepting submissions for Curate, the global search for curatorial talent. Participation in the competition is not limited to aspiring or established curators, and there are no limits on form, language or medium. Submissions will be judged on creativity and social importance. The winning curatorial idea will be realized in an exhibition in either (but not limited to) Qatar or Italy.

Madad Grant to Support Culture In Egypt

Madad (The Cultural Support Initiative) will offer 20 grants of up to L.E. 5,000 to support 20 cultural projects that seek to offer cultural service to culturally deprived communities in Egypt. Such services could include, but are not limited to: theatrical performances, literary seminars, concerts, artistic and cultural programs in schools, film screenings and art exhibitions.

Goethe-Institut and Ashkal Alwan are accepting applications for Beirut Film Station 2014 residency. The call is open to young filmmakers from the Middle East and North African countries for a residency in Beirut. The selected filmmaker will be provided with air ticket, accommodation, free usage of technical equipment, and 1,000 USD/month to cover daily needs.

"She Who Tells a Story" at Museum of Fine Arts Boston

Museum of Fine Arts Boston is currently exhibiting She Who Tells A Story: Women Photographers from Iran and the Arab World. The show introduces the pioneering work of twelve leading women photographers: Jananne Al-Ani, Boushra Almutawakel, Gohar Dashti, Rana El Nemr, Lalla Essaydi, Shadi Ghadirian, Tanya Habjouqa, Rula Halawani, Nermine Hammam, Rania Matar, Shirin Neshat, and Newsha Tavakolian.

Filmmaker Haifaa Al Mansour’s “Wadjda,” the first ever feature from a Saudi Arabian woman, is to be the country’s official nomination for best foreign film at the 2014 Oscars. The film opened in the UK in July and in select US theaters September 20th.

Iran Modern at the Asia Society in New York is the first major museum exhibition mounted with loans from the United States, Europe and the Middle East to focus on Iran's dynamic modern art scene. Co-curated byFereshten Daftari and Layla S. Diba, the exhibition spans the three decades prior to the 1979 Revolution and includes over one hundred works by 26 artists.

At least 400 objects that were looted from the Mallawi Museum in Minia, Egypt following violent protests there last month have been recovered. A police sting operation resulted in 13 artefacts and the first arrest connected to the thefts.
